I’ll have a regular post up on Thursday, but for now I’d like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Thank you for reading!
I had a project come up over the weekend, when I usually draft my posts, and unfortunately haven’t had a chance to write anything up for the blog. So, rather than rushing and posting something sub-par, I’m taking a short break.
My apologies, but I will be back on schedule next week.
So, with only two weeks left in the year, I thought I’d take a look back and share some thoughts on how Everything is Oll Korrect! fared in 2012, and share some of what I consider the best, or at least most interesting, posts of the last year.
Overall, the blog fared pretty well. It is, by far, the most successful year yet for Everything. Post quality has evened out, at least in my admittedly biased but self-critical opinion, and for the first time I can claim with a straight face that I update regularly.
As I’ve mentioned before, when I first began this blog I intended to take an academic approach and post mainly essays and commentaries on works of literature and religion. Even after I started blogging seriously, the only result are a couple lackluster posts on Mishima Yukio, Confucius, and maybe one or two other things that even I can’t remember anymore. The best idea I’ve had for Everything Is Oll Korrect! was changing focus to sharing my impressions on individual works, essentially a reading or viewing journal.
I’ve spent most of this weekend so far either working on my website redesign or with my family. However, I just wanted to take a brief moment to wish everyone a merry Christmas.
This is post number 100 for ‘Everything is Oll Korrect!’, and it’s also been about a year since I registered this domain. I have mixed feelings about the relevance of the landmark - though ‘OK!’ has been around a lot longer than most blogs (since Autumn 2007), it’s been mostly an on-again off-again affair since its beginning as a school project. Only this year have I taken this at all seriously, and only the the past half-year have I begun to find a voice, so to speak.
So, a few days ago Wordpress released Jetpack, which makes some features of wordpress.com available to users of self-hosted WP blogs. I find this a little funny, because I briefly made ‘OK!’ a self-hosted blog but eventually returned here because I found wordpress.com more useful. No major problems, of course, just a few minor things. Now, though, it turns out I may as well have just waited and self-hosted a little longer and I’d feel a little silly moving this blog again.
Yep, back at Wordpress.com. I tried hosting this blog myself, but found that there really aren’t any features to Wordpress that I can’t get on wp.com, so I figured I’d go back to the free hosting option. The main site, itsollkorrect.com, is still there, though, for more permanent stuff.
So, after a couple years of a vague desire for a website, here it is - itsollkorrect.com! Yay, me!
Of course, now remains the hard part of making the best of it. The old version of this blog - ollkorrect.wordpress.com - sat dormant for long periods. It still got more use than most blogs out there, but nonetheless felt underused. Now that I have more time to write for it (and now that I’m actually paying for hosting) updates should be more frequent.
I officially have my own little corner of the internet - Everything is Oll Korrect is now located here. So long, Wordpress.com, and thanks for all the hosting.
